Blame Yourself - 'Glue'

Review by Erin Winter

Blame Yourself

Blame Yourself are a Midwest Emo band from the North East of England. With a style born from the sounds of early 2000's Scuzz and Kerrang, reignited by the emo revival by bands such as Spanish Love Songs, Tiny Moving Parts and Hot Mulligan.

Expect emotionally charged lyrics, twinkly tippy-tappy guitar and raw energy. Join in, enjoy and get sad.

The band are hosting a release show for the track on Thursday 3rd November at Little Buildings in Newcastle, along with Blank Atlas and Holding Out. If you like what you hear from the band be sure to get along and hang out!

‘Glue’

Glue is the second single from Newcastle based emo band Blame Yourself. When speaking to Joe, the bands bassist he said; “The track lyrically is about feeling stuck in life and feeling numb. Wanting to change the negative behaviour patterns but not knowing where to start and knowing that life is passing you by through all this."

As soon as the track kicks in you get that feel of the bright jangly guitar tones that compliment this genre of music so well. The shiny riff is met with those sad yet summer vibe like chords followed further with a punchy bassline, the band are clearly well educated in knowing what can add more flavour into their music as the use of stabs and dropouts really gives it that head bopping feel.

The drummer makes sure to use every piece of the kit not only helping the song structure wise but adding so many interesting elements as well. The vocals express the emotion of the song so clearly with that ‘sad boy’ tone met with feelings of woe and hopelessness.

All in all, the song really pays homage to the influences the band have previously mentioned whilst giving it that added difference and originality. The direction the band are going in within their music will indefinitely gain them a following especially due to the relatable and raw themes they use.

A well example of everything that’s great within the genres of Pop-Punk and Emo whether it be a song for those sunny days or when it gets cold and blue, the band really tick all the boxes and I for one can’t wait to hear more from the local lads.
