KIDPUNK - 'Need To Know'

Review by Erin Winter

KIDPUNK

KIDPUNK are an up and coming, self-proclaimed “New Wave Pop-Punk” band from Newcastle upon Tyne. The band have been writing and playing music together since their early teenage days with influences from: The Story So Far, Blink-182 and newer style ‘Emo Rap’ artists such as JXDN.

After their former band ‘Riversyde’ came to an end, singer Shaun decided to involve the previous band members, Joe, Brandon and Dan with his new project. Since that day the four local lads have been working tirelessly to craft and perfect their style as well as creating content for their fans whether this be new music, tiktoks or social media posts.

The band also went out on a UK tour with Who Saves The Hero?, earlier this year showing the UK Pop-Punk's not dead.

The band have previously released 6 singles over the last year accross all streaming services the most popular being 'Tanners Arms' and 'Hold On'.

The band have over 20,000 monthly listeners and over 300.000 streams and are definetly starting to be well recognized not just in the local scene but accross the country and even some fans from around the globe.

On September 10th the band played their biggest gig yet when they took the 'Fireball' stage by storm with their fast riffs and raw lyrics, this was a great opener for the acts who followed later a few of these being, Higher Power, Boston Manor and the headliners Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes.

'Need To Know'

The track starts off with a distorted guitar riff setting suspense for what is going to follow after. In come the explosive fast tempo drums met by that Mark Hoppus esque bassline we all know and love driving the song keeping that fast energy throughout, the punchy tone really protrays this and gives it that old skool pop-punk vibe. The vocal line is harsh and relatable its a classic boy meets girl story that is being told throughout the song which fits with the genre extremely well.

The vibe of the chorus is amazing the energy shift to half time is greatly done but still uses that angsty energy throughout, the vocals have a call and response feel to them really portraying the hook of the song and the feelings behind it.

If there was a PhD in writing Pop-Punk music these lads would have one, using every element they have to write the most energetic tunes. Another short but sweet banger from the boys that leaves you anticipated for what they'll create next, their music is fit for any mood and emotion whether you need to get your energy out two stepping along to the fast punk energy or you need a tune for a big party Kidpunk's got you.

The band are reaching new levels and milestones at a fast rate so be sure to follow them along on their journey as I feel it's going to be a big one and they're only just getting started.
